What is a hackathon?

  • A hackathon is also known as a coding sprint or marathon, derived from the words 'hack' and 'marathon' to build an idea or solve a problem within a limited timeframe and participants compete to present their projects for prizes or awards.

What is a Bounty or Bounties?

  • Bounties are blockchain-based prizes that are rewarded for solving problems in an open-source and decentralized environment

Do I have to participate for the in-person event?

  • No. You can participate fully online without attending the in-person event. Register as Hacker on this website, join the official ETHToronto Discord server and look out for the virtual stream during Blockchain Futurist Conference.

What is ETHToronto Series?

  • ETHToronto is the official hackathon of Blockchain Futurist Conference, which brings together the technical community to build the future by developing the next innovation in blockchain technology, hosted at the birthplace of Ethereum, Toronto, Canada.

What is ETHWomen Series?

  • ETHWomen is a female-focused and inclusive online and in-person event series, part of ETHToronto and Blockchain Futurist Conference.

Who can participate at ETHToronto Hackathon?

  • ETHToronto is a community event and free to all participants. We are always accepting developers from beginner to expert levels. Blockchain developers and anyone with some programming languages skills are encouraged to participate at ETHToronto Hackathon.

Can I participate in both ETHToronto and ETHWomen?

  • ETHToronto Hackathon participants who identify as women+ are able to opt in to participate at ETHWomen Hackathon by submitting a buidl to an ETHWomen Bounty.

Where are ETHToronto and ETHWomen Series taking place?

  • ETHToronto and ETHWomen are a hybrid event taking place online and in-person at Blockchain Futurist Conference. Participants can choose to only participate in the online portion anywhere in the world and connect with members on ETHToronto Discord channel.

When are ETHToronto and ETHWomen Hackathon? ETHToronto / ETHWomen Schedule are as follows:

  • July 13 - Online Hackathon Starts
  • August 13-14 - In-Person Workshops at Futurist Conference (Optional)
  • August 21 - Online Submission Due
  • August 23 - Judging Concludes
  • August 26 - 30 - Winners announcement and Prize distribution

What are the prizes for ETHToronto and ETHWomen Series?

  • The bounties prizes will be announced as the event date approaches. Keep checking back to learn about the newest prizes.The first crypto hackathon Untraceable organized in 2014 we gave away 35 BTC to the top prize winner! I hope they HODL'd!

HACKATHON

How many people can be on a team?

  • You can have up to six (6) people on a team. You can look for new team members on the ETHToronto Discord #team-formation channel online or for in-person participants, a Team Formation session is scheduled on August 14, 2024 on-site.

Can a project be submitted by a team of 1 person?

  • You can participate as an individual or a team of up to 6 members!

Do I have to participate in a bounty or can I build my own project?

  • You can bring your existing build, start a new one or participate in a Bounty track to work or specific protocols

What is the criteria to submit an existing build?

  • An existing build can be submitted, provided there are new components added to the build during the hackathon in accordance with the bounties criteria outlined in each Bounty detail. The new components will be evaluated during the judging period.

Can I participate in more than one Bounty?

  • You can submit your buidl (project) in as many bounties as you like. Qualified submissions are based on the criteria of each bounty which can be found on this page.

What support resources are available during the Hackathon? For resources online:

  • We're partnered with CryptoChicks Academy offering free access to blockchain, business and crypto courses for participants.
  • There are also links available to guides and tutorials provided on the Bounties page.

For in-person (optional):

  • On August 13 - 14, 2024, there are workshops, mentorship sessions, team formation, mock judging and more!! Bring your questions or if you want to reach someone for assistance, drop a message on the Discord server for additional support.
