Quick facts

  • Voting period: From April 1st to April 22nd
  • Ensure you have an active Petra/Pontem account with a sufficient $APT balance for the gas fee. Each contribution’s influence is calculated based on the weighted amount in the algorithm: 0.1 APT (1 vote) counts as 1 vote, 0.2 APT counts as √2 votes, and n*0.1 APT equals √n votes.
  • vcDORA(>0) can add weight to your votes.
  • Sybil attacks are prohibited and will be detected during the post-hackathon anti-sybil check, which means that creating multiple fake accounts to vote will not improve the BUIDL ranking.
  • For CIF (Community Incentive Fund), continue reading to learn more about the details.

Voting Guide

Step 1. Preparation

  1. Download the Petra/Pontem App. Note: Martian Wallet has no official release on iOS or Android. Please use via browser extension to keep your assets safe.
  2. n*0.1 APT equals √n votes. Ensure you have a sufficient APT balance to cover voting and gas fees.
  3. Please access the voting page(https://dorahacks.io/aptos/round-5/) within the Petra/Pontem App. Voting via Safari/Chrome on your phone might fail.
  4. Make sure you have switched to the Mainnet before voting.

Step 2. Go to vote

  1. Explore all projects and click the "Add to Contribution Cart" to select the projects you wish to vote for.
  1. Adjust the number of votes you wish to cast and link your Petra/Pontem wallet. Each vote will cost 0.1 APT, and you can cast multiple votes. The APT you spend will directly contribute to the projects you choose to support.
  1. Once you see this prompt on this page, congratulations! You have successfully cast your vote. Your votes will be recorded on-chain. After voting, you can check the current project ranking via the leaderboard.

How to add voting weight

1 - Access the Settings page(https://dorahacks.io/settings/wallet) within the MetaMask App. (Make sure you have staked DORA and have vcDORA in your wallet.)

2 - Click “Link Multichain Address” to connect your APT(e.g. Petra/Pontem) wallet address with the ERC20 address. (If you don’t have an ERC20 address linked to your account, please link this address first.)

3 - Now you can proceed with voting for Aptos Grant DAO grantees.

Votes cost APT. When your ERC20 address is connected to your Aptos wallet, you will see the vote amplifier as follows.

vcDORA to add voting weight

In this voting round, vcDORA holders will have more voting power than usual voters. The added weight is determined by the real-time vcDORA balance at the time of voting:

Added Weight = log₂(realtime vcDORA counts+2)

For example:

  • With 0 vcDORA, Added weight = log₂(0+2) = 1*vote given (there's no added weight as the formula equals 1.)
  • With 6 vcDORA, Added weight = log₂(6+2) = 3*votes given
  • With 1022 vcDORA, Added weight = log₂(1022+2) = 10*votes given

Once you've staked DORA and have vcDORA(>0), the vote amplifier will show up when your wallet is connected.  (The wallet to vote via APT and to hold vcDORA should be the same.)

vcDORA: Governance Voice Credit for Open Community Grant DAO(s)

Dora Staking: a way to participate in the governance of Dora grant communities. By staking $DORA at https://dao.dorahacks.io/#/stake(access the page within the MetaMask App), a staker will receive a corresponding amount of vcDORA as the governance credit on DoraHacks.io

vcDORA: short for “voice credit Dora”, a community governance credit generated through  Dora staking.

vcDORA is the non-transferable voice credit for DORA community governance, and the amount of vcDORA associated with an address is related to the amount of DORA staked the duration of staking and time elapsed since the initial staking date.

Features of vcDORA include:

  • Decaying spontaneously: during the period of staking, the amount of vcDORA one holds will decay linearly until the end of the staking period.
  • Upon completing staking, check out your vcDORA balance at a specific date at https://dao.dorahacks.io/#/mine(access the page within the MetaMask App)
  • Non-transferable: vcDORA is designed to grant the governance credit to the stakers (the staking addresses), therefore it’s exclusive (or in the popular terms “soul-bound”) to the staker and is not allowed to be transferred.
  • Irrevocable: Staking is not allowed to be cancelled because it’s based on interactions with a smart contract, but you may increase the staked amount or extend the period for additional vcDORA.

Community Incentive Fund (CIF)

With the kickstart of Aptos Grant DAO Round5’s quadratic funding round on April 1st, DoraHacks is excited to initiate Community Incentive Fund (CIF), a non-discriminatory voter incentive program to encourage contributions to Aptos’ (and later more ecosystems’) public goods/early-stage projects, to provide 60 million GUI token and 3 popular Aptos NFTs as voter incentives for this round.

The CIF aims to redefine the essence of public goods funding by adhering to the philosophy that "fun public goods funding is true public goods funding.", providing MEME tokens/NFTs as contributor incentives. This approach seeks to infuse a fresh and dynamic spirit into supporting public goods and early-stage projects within the Aptos ecosystem and potentially beyond in future rounds.

In an exciting opportunity for participants, voters in this round will share amongst the rewards of 60 million GUI tokens. Additionally, as an added incentive, three voter addresses will be chosen at random using a device-independent quantum random number generator, DI-QRNG, to each win an NFT — specifically, a Bruh Bears NFT, an Aptos Monkey NFT, and an Aptos Creatures NFT. What is Quadratic Funding? How does it work?

Quadratic Voting is a voting scheme introduced and often discussed in the Radical Markets community. It is often considered an innovative improvement of the traditional 1-person-1-vote or 1-dollar-1-vote voting schemes.

The votes cost $APT, which is directly donated to the respective projects after the round. Each contribution’s influence is calculated based on the weighted amount in the algorithm: 0.1 APT (1 vote) counts as 1 vote, 0.2 APT counts as √2 votes, and n*0.1 APT equals √n votes. So what a BUIDL team can earn from a community-funded grant includes:

  • APT from the voters used to support a particular BUIDL;
  • Builder's Grants - Fixed Grant Portion, Total of 4000 APT
  • QF pool - Total of 2000 APT

The wallet to vote via APT and to hold vcDORA should be the same one. The final ranking will be visible at https://dorahacks.io/aptos/round-5/top

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What if I encounter problems during the voting process?

DoraHacks.io provides voting support on Discord or Telegram.

2. Can I see my voting history?

Voting history is unavailable for voters at the moment. However, BUILDERs can view your address at the end of the hackathon. If you want to verify your votes' validity, you can view your voting history via Block Explorer.

3. Can I use bots to mass vote for some projects?

Don’t do this. Botting and other ways of cheating will be detected by our anti-Sybil attack mechanism, which is why a grace period (3-5 days) is being implemented. Please keep in mind that botting will NOT give your supported projects any advantage or affect the distribution of the Matching Fund Pool.

4. Who will receive the $APT I donated?

The votes (or “donations”) will go directly to the projects.

5. Why can’t I vote?

Invalid voting may occur for multiple reasons, please ensure that you:

  • Own a sufficient amount of $APT (for voting and gas fees) in your wallet.
  • Are connected to DoraHacks.io: You should be notified with a pop-up page on your wallet that asks for authorization to connect with DoraHacks. Once you authorize the action, your account number should appear in the voting interface.

If you encounter problems that can’t be resolved during voting, please contact us at https://discord.gg/JE5N2Ucj6s.

Risk Notifications

Please be aware that DoraHacks' smart contracts handle the arrangement and transfer of donated funds, conduct quadratic funding algorithms, and distribute contribution funds to favoured projects.
