Technai

Web3 projects are trying to create a social media app to attract mainstream consumers. In the process, they're abandoning the rich social networks they already have. We propose to build a network-platform on what already works in Web3, the digital marketplace, and add elemental social media features (in stages) 1 commenting 2 group creation 3 messaging

Technai is a marketplace designed by musicians and artists, for musicians and artists. It focuses on restoring value to art through collectible pieces that offer unique benefits to audiences. Key features include:

  • User-friendly interface (UX)
  • Free off-chain minting to level the playing field for non-investing Latin American artists
  • Collector rewards for the first minting

The Problem:

Web3 projects are increasingly attempting to create social media apps to attract mainstream consumers. However, the common strategy of mimicking web2 social media has led to a paradox: in trying to attract users, Web3 platforms are neglecting the social networks they already possess.

Our Solution:

  1. We believe that mainstream consumers are interested in selling digital objects (NFTs) of their creative endeavors.

  2. We recognize that financial incentives are key to attracting mainstream users (hence, twenty-cent mints are not a sustainable solution).

  3. Our insight is that digital marketplaces are inherently social networks, yet the lack of developed social media features in current digital marketplaces stems from a failure to recognize this.

  4. We are building an artist-first platform, leveraging the proven Web3 use-case of digital marketplaces, where we will integrate robust social media features (e.g., notifications, messaging) to foster social interaction.

  5. We propose introducing innovative social features, such as "Remixes," tailored to the digital marketplace to attract and engage users. (The "Remixes" feature, a first in Web3, allows buyers or artists to mint another artist’s work and create a "remix" by modifying it to their liking, then selling it as an NFT on the same marketplace. This feature applies to both songs and visual art. It not only fosters interaction among users but also boosts engagement and increases blockchain activity.)

Artist-first platform:

-Artists should have full control of pricing -The marketplace should respect respect royalties that artists set

  • a UX that celebrates the art: dark background makes art look more precious; require as few clicks as possible with infinite scroll and info on hover to keep artwork and interface free of clutter; full-page ‘maximize’ view of images; thumbnails that don’t crop the artwork) -We believe long-term collectors want an artist-first platform as well. We’re not interested in short-term ‘degens’—they alienate the mainstream consumer that don’t want to be associated with degen culture. -Avoid the use of the word NFT because of stigma; refer to uploads as ‘digital objects’
