A Decentalized Environmental Conservation Organization with a Clean-To-Earn Token Incentive (DePIN)
Aquari is a Decentralized Environmental Conservation Organization that leverages the power of the blockchain to attach a profit incentive to allocating capital to environmental conservation efforts. The main goal of Aquari as an organization is to attach a profit incentive to the environmental conservation industry whilst creating a new type of NGO which is collectively owned, governed, and transparent due to the blockchain’s public ledger.
Problem
Currently existing Environmental NGOs suffer from at least one of these few major problems.
Since NGOs are Non-Profit they are therefore most of the time philanthropic enterprises which are not working to seek profit. As a result the environmental conservation industry is currently not under the influence of traditional market forces and therefore ridden with many capital allocation inefficiencies that other industries currently do not suffer from. If an organization is not for profit then prices cannot be set and market forces cannot do their job to actively signal where capital should be deployed within the overall market economy.
The Solution
We believe that we can utilize the blockchain to create infrastructure to transfer wealth and reward those who allow their capital to be used as liquidity to finance environmental conservation labor and efforts.
Many Blockchain based video games have what is called a play-to-earn token incentive model. Aquari put simply is a project that has created a clean-to-earn token incentive model. Aquari connects investor capital directly to volunteers/workers in order to reduce the massive overhead needed to scale a traditional NGO. Aquari is backed by the value of a decentralized network of individuals giving their time and labour through the use of our app and ecosystem to participate in and coordinate cleanups around the world all to earn our native tokens. All of this is done while each Aquari holder votes for which cleanup initiatives to support. This changes the relationship of philanthropy/ESG from the perspective of the consumer. Their capital is no longer being given to a mysterious third party that they trust to get the job done based on a promise. Instead their capital is placed directly In the hands of people like themselves who they can meet and participate in cleanups with. Natural Human networking effects strengthen the relationships of those within the organization.
Where we are Today
Many blockchain based projects claim to be environmentally friendly yet fail to have any real world impact. Due to this, when Aquari was created It was decided that we must focus on building out a functional organization and structure first, only then when we could get actual boots on the ground would it then be necessary to build out the blockchain infrastructure and dApps on top of the existing organization.
Over the last year we have worked with Malhar Kalambe a UN award winning environmentalist and worked closely with him to roll out our clean-to-earn token incentive model to assist him in cleaning the Mithi river in Mumbai India. Malhar initially facing issues with gathering enough support to continue his cleanups was surprised at the increased effect we were able to achieve by implementing our project’s support. In the last year most the team’s time was spent building out the Aquari organization and the infrastructure needed to roll-out clean-to earn. The next step is to build AquaVote our vertical platform which allows our community to witness full transparency over the allocation of funds within the Aquari organization, Governance, NGO burn rate, etc.
Call to Action
We at Aquari firmly believe that unless we attach a profit motive to planetary restoration by compensating volunteers for their labor whether it be removing river plastic or planting trees we will have very little chance at undoing the damage humanity has done to our planet. It is for this reason why the Aquari community is dedicated to building Aquari and will continue to do so regardless of the obstacles ahead. Our planet does not need more CSR incentive or more NGOs instead it needs a newly spawned environmental conservation industry working under the influence of traditional or artificially engineered market forces. Only once this is achieved will we ever stand a chance at having a future on this little blue planet we call home.
