Problem & Opportunity for Data Availability

  1. Too much choice: With the current landscape filled with many data availability options, it is difficult for developers to make a decision - often defaulting to past norms
  2. Developer Experience: Lack of UI tools to actually start tests such as submitting relevant blobs over well known rollup solutions such as ZKSync’s Hyperchain nodes / Optimism node designs
  3. High Switch Costs: Perception of switch costs is high, due to the lack of awareness and easy experimentation. With Celestia’s data availability sampling design for light nodes, there is an OPPORTUNITY to be the cost leader in data availability.

Introducing Blob.Tools

Blob.Tools is a frictionless UI/UX application to demonstrate blob migration paths to Celestia and perform initial backup syncs with their original Data availability solution (In this case EIP-4844 targetting ZKSync Era's Blobs). All you need to do is to add the batch number into the url queried. For example, batch #470000 is at the URL https://blob.tools/?b=470000. The system on the backend automatically extracts the blob from ZKSync ERA's EIP-4844 and submits it into Celestia and calculates the price differences.

Some key benefits include,

  • No need for faucets
  • Direct blob migration queries
  • Estimate actual savings if truly migrated (code refactoring)
