Background Ever heard of Leonardo da Vinci? Or should we say - celebrated artist, inventor and scientific genius Leonardo Da Vinci! Isn’t it weird that up until not very long time ago most famous inventors and scientists were in fact also artists in some capacity? And yet somewhere along the last few hundred years the gap between the artistic and scientific community has become more extreme, so much so that one hears more about “Science vs. Art” rather than “Science and Art”!
Science and Art are often seen as disciplines with little in common. But research has shown that artistic and scientific creativity are closely correlated - in terms of psychological profiles, mental strategies and polymath tendencies. Research also suggests that the recall value of information expressed via visual and audio aids is more prominent than those without them.
Ever since the dawn of civilization humans have been telling each other stories to generate knowledge, counter dangers and instill creativity for problem solving.
Problem statement (4 main reasons that led us to build our solution) • The true potential of scientific research has not been leveraged fully since it currently interests only a certain section of the population • At the same time, we are struggling with decreasing levels of interest in the scientific discourse topics among younger populations • Moreover, creative contributors such as artists have little or no access to the opportunity of creative expression in the field of scientific discovery • Additionally, intellectual buyers in the web3 space might be more interested in owning NFTs that have a strong intellectual flavor
Our mission Our solution Fotízo (meaning enlightenment in Greek) intends to bridge the world between science and art to “enlighten” the world with knowledge that is “artified” in a way that is easy to understand, encourages healthy scientific dialogue and inspires a future generation of creative thinkers. Our solution Our state-of-the-art solution provides artists with the opportunity to mint an NFT (“FOTOKEN” – combining the words Fotízo and token) from publicly available research papers in their choice of creative expression which could be anything – a hand drawn painting, a video, a poem......the list is endless!
Our regenerative philosophy We want to foster creativity in a multi-disciplinary setting to ensure that diverse viewpoints always have a chance to survive and ensure the renewal of imaginative power.
Our vision We envision that these FOTOKENS will be prized assets “up-for-grabs” in the intellectual community! Which intellectual wouldn’t want a poetic rendition FOTOKEN of the latest scientific discourse from his favorite researcher to showcase in his metaverse villa?

Scientific researchers improve the reach of their published work and get a percentage as royalty whenever the FOTOKEN based on their work is sold. Additionally, they have the potential to carve out a space for themselves beyond the popular h-index. Our future smart contracts will ensure that the reproduced work is tracked via DOI listings for fair royalty distributions. The artists get the chance to address an unexplored territory to create art and earn through the sale of their created FOTOKEN. They can also access a new customer segment of “requestors” who would want FOTOKENS to be minted on their behalf. Quality gates While art is indeed subjective and open to interpretation, our solution will employ quality controls in the future to ensure that related FOTOKEN is not in any way harming the credentials of the researcher. Through a combination of mandatory time windows required to understand the crux of the research and a “bridging agent” who ratifies the appropriateness of the FOTOKEN we aim to regulate and improve the quality of produced content. Our grassroot use case We also envision a deeper impact at the grass root level. One specific use case of Fotízo is its adoption into the modern education system to motivate the next generation of scientists and researchers. Imagine this – young Alice currently studying in grade 10 at Boon high school Orlando wants to become a primatologist like Jane Goodall in the future. But she underestimates her ability to read, let alone understand crucial research in her field of interest. Every time she does open a scientific journal (if she does find one that is!) it turns out to be an unexpected snooze fest. Now imagine if one of her graded assignments at school were to mint a FOTOKEN for a research paper from her favorite scientist. She can choose to express her understanding of the topic through any creative medium of her choice. The assignment also exposes her to the world of web3 and blockchain. Moreover, through this early engagement, she gets an early buy-in into the FOTOKEN ecosystem as a “creator-purchaser-owner” archetype. The “bridging agent” in this case is her teacher who has now yet another avenue to encourage creative engagement in the generation of tomorrow.
