How to cast your vote via MACI Quadratic Voting

* For knowledge about MACI, please continue reading the next part.

** Voting consumes SPORK tokens. All ETHDenver 2022 registered participants will receive SPORK airdrops on Polygon mainnat before voting begins.

*** On-chain voting costs a few gas fees to register your wallet. Please make sure that you have at least 0.1 MATIC in your wallet and your wallet is already connected to Polygon mainnet. Click to know how.

1. Go to https://hackerlink.io/grant/ethdenver22 to check out the 30 finalists.

2. Click “Add to MACI cart” to add your preferred projects to your cart, just like a wish list.

There’s no limit to the number of projects added. You can add as many projects to your cart as you want. But please only vote for projects that you like. All projects getting voted is the same as no projects getting voted.

3. Open cart, set votes you want to give for each BUIDL project.

4. Click submit to register your votes. Sign in metamask or any crypto wallet. Again, some MATIC as gas fee needed. Fun shopping!

5. Changed your mind? You can re-submit by clicking “Start revote” in your cart. Your previous votes will be overwritten.

6. Zero-knowledge proofs of MACI message processing and vote tallying will be generated after the vote period ends at https://hackerlink.io/grant/ethdenver22/proof

Everything you need to know about MACI Quadratic Voting

1. What is MACI

Minimum Anti-Collusion Infrastructure (MACI) is a base layer for bribery-resistant, secure, and private digital voting.

Under the hood, MACI uses Ethereum smart contracts and zero-knowledge proofs. It inherits security and uncensorability from the underlying Ethereum blockchain, ensures unforgeability via asymmetric encryption, and achieves collusion resistance, privacy, and correct execution via zk-SNARK proofs. (To learn more about MACI, please check the source article by appliedzkp at https://appliedzkp.github.io/maci/ )

2. What is quadratic voting

Quadratic Voting is a voting scheme introduced and often discussed in the Radical Markets community. It is often considered an innovative improvement of the traditional 1-person-1-vote or 1-dollar-1-vote voting schemes. The simplified formula on how quadratic voting functions is

cost to the voter = (number of votes)².

In the case of ETHDenver 2022, the votes cost SPORKs. As shown in the equation above, the n'th vote has a cost of n, the number of votes you make is proportional to how much you value one unit of influence over the decision (the value of the decision multiplied by the probability that one vote will tip the result), and hence proportional to how much you care about A being chosen over B or vice versa. Hence, we once again have this nice clean "preference adding" effect. (Buterin, 2019).

3. What are the Team BUIDLers getting because of MACI Voting?

BUIDLers can get their shares of the SPORK matching pool by the result of MACI quadratic voting.

About ETHDenver

ETHDenver is the largest Web3 #BUIDLathon in the world (fka hackathon) for Ethereum and other blockchain protocol enthusiasts, designers and developers. This year’s event features simultaneous virtual and in-person events, kicking off on Friday, February 11th in Denver.

ETHDenver is 100% community funded, and SporkDAO, the community-owned organization of ETHDenver, is on a mission to #BUIDL Colorado as the destination of choice to build a decentralized future, and will be raising a $5 million fund that will be deployed into the investments of projects that will come out of ETHDenver 2022.

The goal is to give value directly back to the community following the completion of the event–with ETHDenver functioning as an incubator and launchpad to create year-round funding for projects.

About DoraHacks

DoraHacks is a global hackathon organizer and one of the world’s most active multi-chain Web3 developer communities. It creates a global hacker movement and provides crypto native toolkits to help developers around the world raise funding for their ideas and BUIDLs. By far, more than 2000 projects from the DoraHacks community have received over $15 million in grants and other forms of contributions from supporters worldwide, and it has around 100,000 monthly active users from 152 countries.

A large number of open source communities, DAOs, and more than 20 major blockchain ecosystems are already using Dora’s infrastructure (hackerlink.io) for quadratic funding, community contribution, hackathon, bounty distribution, and governance of their developer communities.
