Dora Grant DAO is a community-driven program to fund the hacker movement - explore and assist hackers with innovative ideas, and eventually help them build important products for the future of multi-chain Web3 ecosystem. The grantees selected will be offered the valuable opportunities to obtain funding to further develop their projects (BUIDLs) and achieve milestones that they have set out. Meanwhile, they will also get access to the Dora community and corresponding resources helpful for the teams in the further development.

The 2nd funding round of Dora Grant DAO will provide up to $100k to fund BUIDL proposals, based on zero-knowledge voting results of vcDORA community during Dec 20th - 27th, 2023 at https://dorahacks.io/dora/. Continue reading to learn how to vote via vcDORA.

*Note: Entry to Dora Grant DAO Long-term Funding Program will be always open for application, but application review and fund distribution will happen periodically in sequential rounds.

vcDORA:Dora Grant DAO voting ticket

Dora Staking: a way to participate in governance of Dora grant communities. By staking $DORA(ETH) at https://dao.dorahacks.io/#/stake , a staker will receive corresponding amount of vcDORA as the governance credit on DoraHacks.io

vcDORA: short for “voice credit Dora”, a community governance credit generated by Dora staking.

vcDORA is the non-transferable voice credit for DORA community governance, and the amount of vcDORA associated with an address is related to the amount of DORA staked, the duration of staking, and time elapsed since the initial staking date.

It has following features:

  • Decaying spontaneously: during the period of staking, the amount of vcDORA one holds will be decaying linearly until the end of staking period.
  • non-transferable: vcDORA is designed to grant the governance credit to the stakers (the staking addresses), therefore it’s exclusive (or in popular term “soul-bound”) to the staker and is not allowed to be transferred.
  • Irrevocable: Staking is not allowed to be cancelled because it’s based on interactions with a smart contract. But it’s ok to increase staking amount or to prolong the staking period to get more vcDORA.

For more information, please read vcDORA - Governance Voice Credit for Open Community Grant DAO(s) by Eric Zhang, Founder of DoraHacks.

Rules

Voting costs vcDORA, 1 vote = 0.1 vcDORA. The votes you can give our depends on your vcDORA balance in real time (click to check). Considering that vcDORA is self-declining, we suggest you to vote as soon as possible after staking.

*Please note that your real $DORA(ETH) will stay unaffected when vcDORA is spent.

Funding allocation

Dora Grant DAO comes in a total amount of $50,000 in the 5th application review and funding round, and the rules for allocation are as follows:

  • Selected BUIDLs must submit a Grant Funding Proposal prior to participating in the Community Voting.
  • The prize will be given in the order of the Community Voting results. Starting with the first place, the following BUIDLs will be allocated the proposed amount until the $50,000 prize pool has been fully distributed. For example:

*Due diligence will be conducted on the eligibility of every round grantee from Dora Grant DAO. DoraHacks reserves the rights of any revocation/adjustment of the grants.

How to Get vcDORA

*Staking DORA and using vcDORA DO NOT consume real DORA token. Essentially voting using vcDORA is free. (Though some blockchain gas needed)

How many DORA I should stake?

Based on 0.1 vcDORA = 1 vote, you need to get enough vcDORA if you want to give multiple votes. Basically:

  • The more DORA you’ll stake, the more vcDORA you’ll get.
  • The longer the staking period is, the more vcDORA you’ll get.

Of course, we know that calculation is suffering. So here are some figures for your reference supposing you want to give 5 votes.

When you want to give multiple votes, just multiply the number of DORA token staked with the number of votes.

For example

  1. Jim wants to give 5 votes and he has 250 DORA, so the staking duration should be 1 year.
  2. Alice wants to give 10 votes, and she wants the staking duration to be no more than 3 months, so the number of DORA token she should stake is 10 * 200 = 2000 DORA

You can also let the page do auto-calculation for you https://dao.dorahacks.io/#/

How to Stake

Before the following steps, please make sure you have enough $DORA(ETH) tokens for staking and some ETH for gas because $DORA(ETH) is currently a token on the Ethereum mainnet.

1.Go to https://dao.dorahacks.io/ Click “Connect Wallet”.

2.When your wallet is connected, you’ll see a Dora Staking profile page.

Click “Stake $DORA(ETH)”.

3.Specify the amount and duration of staking in the form. “Initial vcDORA” estimates the amount of vcDORA you’ll get by the amount of $DORA(ETH) and duration you’ll stake.

Notice: Staking can NOT be undone.

4.If you want to increase staking amount or extend staking period to get more vcDORA, go to https://dao.dorahacks.io/#/stake or click “Stake $DORA(ETH)” tab to continue.

When staking expires, you can get the staked $DORA(ETH) back on this page.

How do I know how many vcDORAs I have now?

When you finish staking, you can check your vcDORA balance at https://dao.dorahacks.io/#/mine anytime. It shows real-time vcDORA balance in your wallet as well as the estimated amount at any specific date in the staking period.

How to Vote

All grantee projects are listed at https://dorahacks.io/dora Enter the page to vote.

Please prepare some BNB (0.01 BNB will be enough). Smart contract of community voting grant is deployed on BNB Chain.

  1. Click “Add to MACI-Cart” button under the project you want to support. You’ll be asked to connect wallet for verifying vcDORA balance.

  2. This is a MACI voting round, results will be released when voting finishes.

  3. Dora Grant DAO will implement community governance snapshot after voting period to record all the addresses participating in voting. The results may later used considered in some community governance activities.
